MKVToolPack 2

Mac software MKVToolPack 2

Description:

Isn't it time to produce your own Matroska video files with your Mac or what?  MKVToolPack is back with a new user interface!  MKVToolPack is all about Matroska-container movies.  It allows the user to rip raw stream tracks of Matroska-container movies.  You can use MKVToolPack to repackage these raw stream tracks into MP4 movies.  If you already have raw media tracks, use MKVToolPack to create your own MKV movies.  Or use MKVToolPack to split one Matroska movie file into multiple segments, combine split segments into a complete, independent movie file.

Why should we use the Matroska format in the first place?  Matroska is a multimedia container format like AVI, MOV, MP4 and MPEG.  Unlike MPEG, for which you pay a few bucks for every Mac purchase, Matroska is an open-source media format.  The best part is that Matroska supports a wide range of audio, video and subtitle formats, and many people therefore find it better than AVI and MP4.

Features

  • Unpack, UnpackAll: Rip raw audio/video/subtitle tracks of a Matroska-container movie
  • PackMP4: Repackage raw stream files into an MP4 movie for viewing
  • PackMOV: Edit MP4 movie files or other QuickTime-readable media formats
  • PackMKV: Repackage raw stream files into an independent Matroska-container movie
  • SplitMKV: Split a single Matroska-container movie file into multiple independent movie files
  • JoinMKV: Combine multiple MKV segments sharing the same specs into one complete, independent movie file

This release is made for Leopard (Mac OS 10.5) users.  This version will run under Snow Leopard to the extent that the user is able to export movies.  However, the application will put itself into an infinite loop after a movie export.  The problem is caused by the IDE (integrated development environment) program we use.

2.0.1 to 2.0.3 (April 25, 2010)

  1. Fix: The data size and video bit rate were incorrectly labeled under Unpack and UnpackAll.
  2. Fix: When a media file that has no video bit rate shown in the header is imported under Unpack, MKVToolPack will reject it.

2.0.0 to 2.0.1 (April 23, 2010)

  1. Fix: Import and export fields will stay uneditable after importing a movie under PackMKV.
  2. Fix: The resolution and frame rate were incorrectly labeled under Unpack and UnpackAll.
