VersionsX - User's Guide |
By the way, if you have selected a software title on the application drop-down menu, you can access its software information by clicking on the Info toolbar button. (See Screenshot 4-7.) If you want to close it, simply click on the same button again. In order to create a version profile, make sure you have selected a particular software title on the application drop-down menu. Then click on the New button inside the Software version box. (See Screenshot 4-8.) And you will have access to the checkboxes and edit fields below.
When you first click on the New button, three purple symbols will appear. These symbols indicate required fields. One requirement is the software version. VersionsX will finds out in real time if the current version number you have entered has actually been used. If that's the case, the purple symbol will remain visible. Click on the checkbox button next to the Date label. And the Date picker will spring up. (See Screenshot 4-9.) The date you choose here is the release date of the software version. Simply, click on the number of the day under an appropriate month and year to select a date. The number of the day in bold signifies the current day accoring to your system clock. Unlike the current date, if you click on the checkbox button next to the Time label, VersionsX will add the current time to the version profile. This time will serve as the clock-in time, making sure that you will know in the future when you exactly created this version profile.
If the URL verification checkbox is enabled, VersionsX will validate the URL you have entered in the edit field below the label that says Download URL. This URL serves as the download link. If the URL is currently accessible, you will see a green validation symbol to the right. (See Screenshot 4-10.) It is not neccessary that you enter a true download link. If a download link doesn't exist yet, you can click on the Temp URL button to substitute it for the URL of the web site for this software title. Just as in creating a software profile, if you find it difficult to type in fields, turn off URL verification.
Under Changes, document the changes made with this software version. If you click on the Show button below, VersionsX will launch the default web browser you have selected in Preferences to show this version release description. This feature is installed so that you can see what the version history will look like when <li> and <ol> tags are applied. So turn on either checkboxes below if necessary before clicking on the Show button.
When it's time to submit your software version to web sites like Download.com, MacUpdate and Softpedia, select a version and then click on the Publish button. (See Screenshot 4-14.) And a new window that summarizes the selected version plus developer information and software information will spring up.
This window points to three URLs (developer's web site, software web site and the download link of the selected version). If you want to make sure that any of the URL is currently accessible, click on the Access button. (See Screenshot 4-15.) And a message window will open and tell you whether or not the given URL is currently accessible. (See Screenshot 4-16.)
If you want to edit any of the fields at this stage, you can do so. Simply, enable the checkbox next to the field you wish to edit. (See Screenshot 4-17.) You can click on the All checkbox at the top to make all fields edible. If you are finished, choose Save under File to save changes. (See Screenshot 4-18.) Furhermore, if you choose Print under File, VersionsX will create a summary form as shown in Screenshot 4-19.
